Vacuum filter saver

Place a coffee filter over the permanent filter of your dust buster.  This will prevent dander and feathers from clogging your permanent filter.  Simply toss the coffee filter when you empty the dust collector reservoir and you wont have to buy costly permanent filter replacements.

Easy dividing of frozen foods

When freezing daily portions of cooked foods, press food flat in the bag.  This will allow you to break off smaller portions to defrost easily.

Full time job and a Feathered friend too?

For the working parront, cut up mixed veggies and fruits on Sunday night and store in the fridge in daily portions in airtight Ziploc storage containers.  This allows you to quickly fill your bird's veggie dish before you dash out the door for work.

A treat and a toy!

Try making birdie muffins in tiny muffin tins.  Freeze on a cookie sheet first (prevents them from becoming one giant clump) then store in a ziploc bag.  You can then defrost one at a time and let your bird have a blast picking at the tiny paper wrapper.  A treat and toy in one.

Fussy Eater?

Bird wont try a certain kind of veggie? Try threading them on a bird safe skewer.

Humidity Problems?

Low humidity in your bird's area?  Use a decorative fountain to boost moisture.  My birds find the sound of running water calming.  Also try hanging damp towels near the cage.

Pesticide concerns?

Concerned about Pesticides or other chemicals on fruits and veggies? Soak them in water with a few drops of GSE.  Rinse and serve.

Nail Trimming

When trimming your birds nails, keep a dish of white flour on hand.  If you cut too short dip the bleeding nail in the flour, it will help stop the bleeding without a harmful chemical the bird might ingest later.

Cold Weather

Be sure any auxiliary heaters you use do not contain "Teflon". Home heating dries out the air in our homes, it's a good time to invest in a good quality humidifier. Moisture in the air will benefit your birds and all in your home. Purchase a carbon monoxide detector to be sure your furnace does not emit harmful fumes and don't forget to change batteries in battery operated smoke detectors! Be smart and be safe in your home!
